The website in motion

The project
Lucas has been a qualified carpenter for twenty years and has traded as Constructions by Lucas out of Werribee since 2012, working across Melbourne's west and out along the coast on decks, pergolas, fences and outdoor structures. The work was strong and almost entirely invisible: a Facebook page, a domain parked with the registrar, and referrals doing all the selling. Nothing showed a prospective client what a finished job actually looks like.
The identity came first, because there wasn't one. The mark went through several rounds before it landed: a constructed monogram where the outline reads as a C, the B is a door, and the L is built from the beams either side of it. It's a carpenter's logo made out of the things a carpenter makes, and once it existed the rest of the design system followed from it. Square corners, one tan, and nothing else competing for attention.
Then we built the site around the gap. Every completed build gets its own page with its own photography, its own materials and its own short write-up, so a homeowner comparing quotes can see the exact thing they're considering rather than a stock gallery. A separate landing page was also built using the same design system. The main website brings the completed work, service information and enquiry path together.
From an outdoor idea to a buildable brief.
For a homeowner around Werribee, a deck or pergola starts as an idea about how to use a space. Lucas’s website connects that idea to completed carpentry, then asks for the practical details needed to discuss the build.
- Step 01
Meet the homeowner at the service
Service and local search pages give decking, pergolas and fencing their own starting points. That matters because someone seeking shelter for an outdoor area is making a different decision from someone replacing a fence.
- Step 02
Let completed builds explain the possibilities
The project portfolio gives the service promise a physical reference. Materials, proportions and finishing details help a homeowner explain what they like, instead of starting a quote request with only a broad category.
- Step 03
Turn inspiration into scope
The quote form asks for suburb, service interest, budget range, timeline and a project description alongside contact details. Those questions help Lucas distinguish an early idea from a defined project and prepare a more useful first response.
- Step 04
Use the enquiries to choose the next project story
The useful review is which kinds of builds people ask for and how well those requests describe the scope. If pergola enquiries repeatedly ask about materials or covered areas, a completed project can answer those questions in context.
What this helps decide
Review actual enquiries alongside service-page interest before changing the portfolio order. A popular photograph and a suitable construction enquiry tell us different things.

Under the hood
Next.js App Router, statically generated, with each project a content-driven route rather than a CMS entry, so the build stays fast because there is nothing to query at request time. Project pages carry their own structured data so a job can surface directly in search. The separate landing-page build used its own deployment, noindex rules and conversion tracking. It remains part of the project history; the main website is the focus of this case study.
When Echo Studios reached out to me, not only did they tell me what I was missing, they gave me suggestions on how to fix it. Phil makes you excited from that first cold email to the last couple of hours going through the new CRM, Website, Automation, Logo change he has done for your business.
